Two men, infamous for stealing motorcycles in the state were arrested by police in Ogun state.
A statement by the spokesperson for state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects, Joshua Michael, 27, and Emeka Nwanga, 26, were arrested on Monday, July 20, with the combined efforts of police officers attached to Ilese-Ijebu Division in Ijebu-Ode.
The perpetrators had been behind several cases of motorcycle snatching in the Ijebu-Ode and its surroundings, according to Oyeyemi. He said the suspects were caught when they attempted to snatch another motorcycle at Ikangba Estate and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Olusesi Kayode, was given a distress call, which promptly mobilized his anti-robbery team to the scene.
“On seeing the officers, the suspects took to their heels, but with the aid of members of the public they were vigorously chased and arrested.”
Oyeyemi added that the perpetrators obtained a motorcycle and a locally-made weapon.
“In the meantime, CP Police Commissioner Kenneth Ebrimson ordered the suspects to be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for separate investigation and prosecution,” the statement concluded.
